Sega Ages – Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sega Ages: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a re-release of the Sega Genesis title, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, developed by M2. It was released in February 2020 as part of the Sega Ages lineup for the Nintendo Switch. It follows Sega Ages: Sonic the Hedgehog that was released in 2018. The game was first shown on the Japanese Sega Ages website as early as 2018, but it did not receive an indication for an official release date until 2020. The story takes place on West Side Island. According to legend, this landmass was inhabited by an advanced civilization whose people flourished by harnessing the powers of seven mysterious stones.

However, in their hubris and greed, they took these stones for granted often, reducing their society to dust. All that remains nowadays are lush green meadows and deep memories. It is within these same meadows that Sonic the Hedgehog is enjoying a few days off during an adventure of his. He finds the local creatures very friendly, specially a two-tailed fox who would follow him wherever he went. The fox’s name is Miles “Tails” Prower, and although he is not the most popular, he is aware that hanging around with the hedgehog would make him the coolest kid ever, having even mastered the Spin Dash eventually.

Sega Ages: Sonic 2 the Hedgehog includes almost all of the features from 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Nintendo 3DS. The gameplay runs at a stable 60 FPS and has widescreen support (with borders or stretched). Other returning features include the Level Select option, the display filters and the ability to play either the Rev.01 or Rev.00 version (which the interface describes as “Japan” and “International” respectively). HD vibration is also available and is used at times like when the player uses a Spin Dash, jumps on a Spring, or destroys an Item Box.
